In the last 6 weeks we have seen an unprecedented number of parvo cases at our small animal hospital in Keizer Oregon, mostly among young unvaccinated dogs. Unfortunately, there has been no discernible pattern to the location of the cases as some where new puppies shipped to Oregon, others were out camping/fishing in large recreational areas and still others were in the local area. To put this “outbreak” in perspective we have seen more cases in the last 6 weeks than we say all of 2008. So dog owners make certain that your dogs are current on their parvo vaccines and puppy owners don’t venture much past your back yard unless your puppy has had at least 3 sets of vaccines.
